Kipstor provided programme and data architecture services to the UK's operator running the day-to-day railway through a number of geographically based businesses called routes. These routes manage and run the railway network in their area and work closely with their local train operating companies to deliver the best service possible for customers.
The operator's main role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway every day for the four and half million peple and businesses who rely on it. The company carefully manages and delivers thousands of projects every year that form part of a multi-billion railway upgrade plan to grow and expand the nation's railway network.
The railway infrastructure company is under constant regulator practice to improve service levels and customer performance. The organisation had embarked upon an ambitious 7 year business transformation programme to establish a centralised Asset Information to offer the railway industry better infromation services (ORBIS).
This programme required expertise to set-up and manage the architecture of the programme as part of the programme's design authority. This involved a full data management and business intelligence capability coupled with mobile device and app deployment for trackside engineers and maintenance staff.
Kipstor was engaged to oversee the development of the programme-level architecture across the 50+ projects in the programme portfolio.
As part of the ongoing client-side engagement Kipstor has produced:
RFI for programme-architecture development
Architecture models demonstrating line-of-sight between X and Z
Business process modelling standards and guidelines
Business process assessments
Information modelling standards and guidelines
The programme was able to maintain oversight of the programme's projects and assure delivery of the strategic business change and system integrators.
